Our priority is to engage residential students in meaningful experiences to learn about themselves, others and develop skills to become Spartan Ready.

Spartan Living Residential Curriculum

Students who develop a broad range of life skills will be better prepared for life during and after college. Life skills include financial literacy, physical health, emotional wellness and positive habits. Learning foundational life skills prepares students for independence, provides balance and supports their ability to contribute to the larger community.

Learning Goals:

  • Each student will be able to articulate foundations of financial literacy.
  • Each student will be able to describe habits to sustain a healthy physical lifestyle.
  • Each student will be able to determine how to support their own emotional wellness.
  • Each student will be able to practice positive habits to support independent living.
  • Each student will be able to practice positive habits to support their academic success.

Effective interpersonal competence develops approachability, builds relationships and assists with navigating difficult conversations. A hallmark of interpersonal abilities includes sharing one's perspective while recognizing differing and diverse opinions of others.

  • Each student will be able to approach others and initiate conversations effectively.
  • Each student will be able to build relationships to develop their personal and professional lives.
  • Each student will be able to articulate their own perspective while recognizing other perspectives.
  • Each student will be able to apply conflict resolutions skills.

After graduation, students must navigate increasingly complex global landscapes including local, national and international contexts. Students can learn to express their own worldview informed by differing perspectives. Students will consider local, national and international contexts while exploring the benefits and challenges of being an engaged citizen.

Community engagement assistants (CEAS), desk assistants (DAs), resident assistants (RAs) and area coordinators (ACs) play a significant role in the success of Spartan Living. By building relationships with residents, staff members can identify both individual and community needs. Staff members utilize creative methods of delivering information to residents and serving as a resource and partner in their college experience.

Area coordinators serve as the primary partners of Spartan Living, working with both residents and student staff. Once individual and community needs are identified, area coordinators utilize learning outcomes to develop intentional experiences for the benefit of residential community members.
